About Doreen Homawoo - Overview
Welcome to my professional portfolio. I am Doreen Homawoo, a passionate advocate for social change with a particular focus on disability inclusion and supporting disadvantaged communities. I bring a unique combination of lived experience, academic training, and practical expertise to everything I do.With a background in nursing, economics, and public policy, along with almost a decade of experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital, my work is driven by both professional knowledge and personal commitment. As the mother of a child with disabilities, I have dedicated over a decade to empowering families and contributing to innovative solutions that promote independence, dignity, and inclusion.
I strongly believe in the social model of disability, which recognises that societal barriers, rather than individual impairments, restrict people’s opportunities. This perspective guides my approach to policy development, advocacy, and inclusive practice.
My leadership experience spans almost two decades across professional and community settings. I have led teams, coordinated programmes, and supported others through mentoring and capacity-building. I work effectively both independently and collaboratively, and I am often described as a motivated self-starter who brings value to every project.
Currently, I am studying for an MA in Economics and Public Policy, focusing on translating research into practical, equitable solutions that improve the lives of children and families worldwide.
